Frankie Muniz Caps Off Debut GT4 Season with Am Championship Title For TechSport Racing

Back in late August, Frankie Muniz finally broke through for his first-ever sportscar victories as a professional racer, sweeping both SRO Pirelli GT4 races at Road America alongside co-driver Tyler Stone.

After the checkered flag waved Sunday at the Brickyard to mark the end of the 2026 season, Muniz and Stone had captured a class championship.

Muniz and Stone took their slim points advantage into the weekend over their closest competitors, the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW pairing of James Clay and James Walker Jr. A setback on Saturday in Race 1 was wiped away by a rebound effort in Race 2, which saw Stone start the race before Muniz finished it off with a late charge en route to a P2 finish in class. That result proved sufficient to deliver the Am championship to the TechSport Racing team.

It’s the first-ever championship title of Muniz’s professional racing career, coming in his debut season in SRO competition. The former actor let his emotions show following the race and in the pit lane during an interview with Amanda Busick, highlighting the sacrifices he’s made over the last 20 years in motorsports to finally reach this point and win a class title:

A few weeks ago at Barber Motorsports Park, Muniz and Stone took the class victory in Race 2, which not only put them in position to win this championship title, but it gave us another showing of the legitimate, raw emotion that resides within a guy that simply loves the racing game with an intense, real passion –

For those who have followed Frankie’s racing career to this point, he’s paid his dues across multiple series throughout nearly two decades of on-again, off-again participation. Muniz got pretty candid after Road America in late August, the weekend in which Muniz earned his first ever race wins as a pro, and revealed that his recently completed divorce from his now ex-wife were largely a result of his extensive involvements in racing. That commitment came with the unfortunate side effect of spending nearly every weekend on the road for years on end.

It’s one of the great feel good stories to come out of the 2026 season in any series in racing, with Muniz already confirming that he’s returning to run the TechSport Mustang again in 2027.

Muniz spoke to reporters afterwards and detailed the kind of struggles that he —and any athlete facing the reality of their own shortcomings in their craft— can experience when things get so low that you start to question just what in the hell you’re doing and whether any of it is truly worth it.

I’ve been questioning what I’m doing the last year. Racing is such a hard business. The highs are super high and the lows are really, really low. You mix that in all the personal stuff I was going through at home, you go, ‘Should I be doing this? Should I just focus on something else?’

Mid-season we started winning and feeling like, ‘No, I belong in this series and I want to keep proving it.’ Thank you to Ford for believing in me. The last couple of years, they’ve really supported me so much. I’m so happy to bring the Mustang GT4 car a championship and we’re going to repeat it next year.

Congrats Malcolm – er I mean Frankie! You’re an SRO GT4 champion!
